During a live chat on MLB.com in 2004, someone asked the following question to Giants GM Brian Sabean:

Did you ever make an offer for Vladimir Guerrero?

Brian Sabean: In a word: No. If we had signed Guerrero or [Gary] Sheffield, we would have been without [Jim] Brower, [Scott] Eyre, [Matt] Herges, [Dustin] Hermanson, [Brett] Tomko, [A.J.] Pierzynski, [Pedro] Feliz, [J.T.] Snow, [Jeffrey] Hammonds, [Dustan] Mohr and [Michael] Tucker--obviously not being able to field a competitive team, especially from an experience standpoint, given our level of spending.

Taking a look back now... Vlad has been 1st and 3rd in AL MVP voting the last 2 years. Meanwhile, only one of the 10 players Sabean mentioned is still on the Giants (Pedro Feliz). And he has a career .288 OBP.

Thanks Brian!

At work today, we took the Wonderlic test as a "team building" activity.

(The Wonderlic is used by NFL teams to rate a player's quantitative skills. It's like an IQ test, but it has 50 questions, and you're only given 12 minutes to take the test. So most people don't finish.)

Vince Young reportedly scored a 6, which is much worse than the NFL quarterback average of 24.

Here's the test we took. Since this only contains 15 questions, you only get 5 minutes to finish:

Baseball Prospectus' Nate Silver is counting down the top 50 most valuable players in baseball.

He only published numbers 26-50 today, so here's what I think his top 25 will look like:

25) Hank Blalock
24) Rickie Weeks
23) Francisco Liriano
22) Rich Harden
21) Carlos Zambrano
20) Jhonny Peralta
19) Grady Sizemore
18) Joe Mauer
17) BJ Upton
16) Roy Oswalt
15) Eric Chavez
14) Andruw Jones
13) Felix Hernandez
12) Vladimir Guerrero
11) Delmon Young
10) Derrek Lee
9) Miguel Tejada
8) Jason Bay
7) Adam Dunn
6) Mark Teixeira
5) Johan Santana
4) Miguel Cabrera
3) David Wright
2) Albert Pujols
1) Alex Rodriguez

I feel like Chase Utley belongs here too, but I don't know who to take off the list.

Numbers 1-25 come out tomorrow, so we'll see how well I match his actual list.

I used to love playing RBI Baseball on the original Nintendo, so I think this re-enactment of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series is pretty sweet. I should note that it is over 8 minutes long...

Here's the actual clip of the Bill Buckner play. It's from 1986, so the quality isn't great.

Trailer for "24: The Movie"

OK, so I guess it's actually called "The Sentinel", but you could've fooled me.
